Successful Olomouc businesswoman Monika Vojáčková stands behind the reflexology StoneBoard project . In 2013 she invented and marketed the revolutionary reflexology StoneBoard to stimulating the nerve endings on the sole of the foot. The board is made from natural stones (river stone and marble) or semi-precious stones.

In 2014 she founded the company MONYA HS Inc. which is engaged in the production of these StoneBoard reflexology slabs, as well as in developing new products made from natural materials focused on reflexology and education in the field of reflexology foot. The idea of reflexology StoneBoard occurred to me because of my own health problems, I underwent two spinal surgeries. I myself was looking for an alternate way to help my own body and to dispose of chemical medications. At the time, I was dealing with reflexology and related disciplines, such as podiatry (it is a science that deals with the sole of the foot), which after a while gave me an idea to develop a reflexology plate to stimulate the reflex points.

Currently they are working with the boards in the Center of medical rehabilitation at the Hospital Agel Prostějov, as well as in hotels, sports centres, spas, balneo, swimming pools, rehabilitation facilities, children's hospitals, nurseries and schools. A medical and clinical study is developed about the plate and is targeted specifically on the musculoskeletal system. Through the use of natural materials (stone and semi-precious stones) is StoneBoard not only medical aid but also complement modern home design.

The opinions of leading experts in the field of musculoskeletal and reflexology foot on StoneBoard:

MD. Miroslav Havrda (first vice president of the Czech Podiatric Society, neurologist and sports doctor)

1) How can you explain in medical terms that you stand on the board with stones and feel better?
My profession is podiatry and neurology. This board is an ideal combination of these two fields - you stand on the stones and they affect your feet. It also depends on what stone is whether sharp or round.
Through the feet we receive information - walk on concrete, asphalt, use a shoe - everything affects the foot. Foot contains nerve endings, and through it we perceive the stability of body and contact with the pad. Soles are known. Reflex zones which are associated with various organs of humans. Stimulation can influence these reflex zones, and thus the function of internal organs, eg .: stomach, kidney ....
This all we stopped perceiving since we do not walk barefoot. Using reflexology plate is a return to walking without shoes. A man can have interesting feelings while using the plate - trembling, tingling, gradually begins to perceive their body.
Stones are everywhere, in diverse shapes and on various surfaces. They are indestructible and easy to disinfect. The romantic image of the soul of nature and memory mass would be wrong demonstrate and prove it. After all, it is a noble material, and people come after thousands of years.

2) Why stones? There are rational arguments for it? (What if it had to be wood or plastic?)
I do not believe in magic stones. From a mechanical point of view, it is the same. The temperature is important - stone has a different temperature than wood. A disadvantage of wood is that it can have a smooth surface. Round stones are usually used and it does not matter which kind of stone is used. Stone is a natural material, in the past, people walked on stones. Use boards to obtain the correct coordination of movement.

3) For which patients is the board recommendable and for which it is not?
For 98% of patients, it is a nice, positive thing. The plate cannot be used by patients with diabetes (diabetic ulcer on the sole of the foot - fot damage, skin problems), then I would not recommend it for people with an increased sensitivity of the feet. The feet may be irritated and cause worsening of the disease. Reflexive board is inappropriate when there is a foot tendon injury or inflammation of muscle, heel spurs.

4) Did you experience a case when the board actually helped to improve the patient’s state?
I don’t have the reflexology stoneboard yet, but I know how it works. I saw it in New Zealand, I myself have made something similar. There is a "barfussweg" - barefoot path. In German, Dutch, English-speaking countries - the are sidewalks, which contain various segments with stones, pinecones, sawdust - and people walk on them half a kilometre barefoot. I'm the first in the Czech Republic to create something like that. I have experience with principles of barefoot walking.

5) The board is relatively expensive – is it worth it?
I cannot be the judge of that - people spent money on worse things. It has its worth, it can be put into the apartment, it's a nice decoration. When you no longer want to use it, you can hang it on the wall. In New Zealand it is sold as a souvenir.

MD. Marie Součková (President of the Czech Podiatric Society)

1) How can you explain medical terms that you stand on the board with stones and feel better?
Reflexology plate with stones from natural materials is the ideal medium to induce relaxation throughout the body. The feet are the best place for reflexology intervention. There are reflected reflective images of organs on the feet. Pressing the correct point can positively affect inner balance, evoke the correct functioning of the organs, state of mind and ultimately clean the body from many pollutants and affect many inflammatory processes.
Feet are one of the sense organs, which inform the control centre about state of the body, about the quality of the terrain, about the necessity of strength output for the involvement of the nerve-muscle system in order to maintain balance, allow movement, feet also inform about the temperature of surface and about its unevenness, etc. Although we constantly tread on feet, they belong to the most sensitive parts of our body.

2) Why stones? Are there rational arguments for it? (What if it had to be wood or plastic?)
Pressuring to the skin with the stones not only stimulates the nerve system, but also to the activation of secretion of all that the organism needs. Stepping on the board activates the blood circulation, leading to a normalization and overall recovery, thereby increasing the body's resistance. Stimulating the sensitive points of the foot activates increased blood flow, accelerated metabolism, accelerated absorption of various inflammatory effusions with against painful effect. Using plates not only helps with headaches, bronchitis, cold feet syndrome, but leads to the release and recovery of joints throughout the body through the affecting the acupuncture points as in the classic Kneipp pavement stones, but in this case it does not use water. He, who has the option, can put the board in water. The board is made from natural stone that is easily disinfected and does not wore out. It's a good evocation of walking on uneven ground in the domestic environment, which, thanks to the activation of zones and reflex through their whole posture and neuro-muscular system, is very popular.

3) For which patients is the board recommendable and for which it is not?
All those who have problems not only with the disorder arch and foot pain, but also for those who suffer from spinal pain, arthralgia, headache, is suitable for children with functional legs, bad posture, and the like. I do not recommend it for people after organ transplants.
4) Did you experience a case when the board actually helped to improve the patient’s state?
I have just started with reflexology practice I know very well from practice the effects of walking on the stones on Kneipp path. I can recommend the board, beneficial effects certainly come. The big advantage is that whoever gets it will become independent on the opening hours of workplaces that own the plates.

5) The board is relatively expensive - is it worth it?
If we calculate the cost of the plate eg. A mere two years, for a family of four, then the cost is about CZK 1.60 per day per person. Stepping on the stones will not destroy them, disinfectants do not damage to board, so we cannot calculate the depreciation of the mere two years. Investing in health will always pay off.

MD. Ivan Krupa (specialist for physiatry and rehabilitation)

1) How can you explain in medical terms that you step on a board with stones and feel better?
On the soles of the feet is a plethora of reflexology and acupuncture points. Soles of the feet are a mirror of the body. Not only the disease but also the energy disturbance which may lead to disease, occur on the soles. Contact foot pads with stones massages points and zones, and certainly hit even the most necessary ones (similar to walking barefoot over rocks on the beach).

2) Why stones? There are rational arguments for it? (What if it had to be wood or plastic?)
Because the rocks are everywhere. Diverse shapes and surfaces. They are indestructible and easy to disinfect. The romantic image of the soul of nature and memory mass would be wrong demonstrate and prove it. After all, it is a noble material, and people come after thousands of years.

3) For which patients is the board recommendable and for which it is not?
It is suitable for all patients with functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system, post-traumatic conditions, people in recovery, but also neurotic and unsystematic spent workaholics. It is not advisable for pregnant women, people with malignancies.

4) Did you experience a case when the board actually helped to improve the patient’s state?
Significant improvement occurs with people with acute lumbago (sciatica). Shortening the treatment by at least half.

5) The board is relatively expensive - Is it worth it?
It is definitely worth it. Investing in health will always pay off. And it's still cheaper than a trip to the sea and where you can walk barefoot on rocky beach. And it is possible even in winter.
